Vitra is reissuing the Conique lampshade that Jean Prouvé developed in 1947 to dress the bulb of his Potence wall light. During the 1940s, Jean Prouvé designed the Potence wall light for his own house in Nancy: a simple light bulb attached to a long steel swivel bar, held in place by a steel wire. In 1947, Prouvé developed a conical lampshade in white cotton that adapts to the different versions and sizes of Potence (Potence and Petite Potence). Historical photos of Jean Prouvé’s house show that he experimented with different types of lampshades, including models created by other designers. The Conique lampshade is the first lampshade for Potence designed by Jean Prouvé in 1947. This lampshade simply slides over the bulb and can be removed if needed.
