The famous Bouroullec brothers create an incredible pendant that presents itself as an elegant sinuous leather strap, floating freely in space. The Belt pendant offers an illusion that mixes rigidity and flexibility. The long lower light strip (which contains the LED light sources) is rigid: it’s made of a very fine extruded aluminium structure covered with hand-sewn genuine leather. This rigid band is suspended from the ceiling by two flexible straps, also in leather. These suspension straps work like belts: their height can easily be adjusted by sliding them through metal buckles (max height 150 cm). The LED light sources contained in the long lower strip provide diffused, direct and indirect (up and down) lighting. The light runs right along the strip. Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec: “Belt is pure flexibility, a sinuous line whose nature balances the softness of leather and the rigidity of aluminium.” Each element of the pendant is embedded in the leather straps. Some elements are used to suspend the device, others carry electricity, and some contain light. The different parts of the pendant are connected by an innovative, invisible connection system, developed to obtain a sinuous line without visible interruptions. Leather is an old material, both precious, sensual and raw, contemporary and timeless: this is the primary material of the Belt pendant. This pendant looks like a beautiful piece of luxury leather goods. Belt displays a hybrid style: both classic and timeless, but at the same time graphic and contemporary. This pendant with its imposing dimensions (L 200 cm) dresses large spaces with its ethereal, graphic presence. The lighting can be controlled by bluetooth using a smartphone app (free to download on Apple Store & Google play). By using the Artemide app, you can turn the light on and off, reduce the intensity of the lamp, create an infinity of light scenarios for your home…
