Originally trained in shipping, Morten Gøttler became a self-taught designer and architect recognised for his exceptional understanding of wood. He develops traditional Scandinavian craftsmanship in a new context. His style has its roots in the tradition of Scandinavian design, with a marked taste for lightness and simplicity, values which are joined by attention to detail, quality materials and comfort. Cuba Chair is a nod to the masters of Scandinavian design who in the past experimented and pushed the boundaries of the folding chair concept. This folding lounge chair has a solid wooden frame. The hand-woven seat is made of paper cord. Very robust, the paper cord perfectly imitates plant fibre, with its warm, natural aspect. It’s lifep easily stretches over 50 years and is (at least) as durable as textiles and quality leather. The woven paper cord forms a comfortable seat and backrest. This chair offers excellent support by delicately following the contours of the body. The lightweight frame folds for convenient storage. Highly functional, this armchair nonetheless remains incredibly elegant. In short, it perfectly embodies the concept of complex simplicity.
