French designer Gilles Derain (1944 – 2019) was the co-founder and artistic director of Lumen Center. His works, which have now become classics, reach record prices at auctions. At the end of the 1970s, Gilles Derain created the MCP floor lamp (”Merci Chareau Pierre”) in honour of the famous French architect Pierre Chareau, famous for creating the visionary Maison de Verre. This floor lamp went on to enjoy enormous commercial success, to the point of being included in the collection of the Musée des Arts Décoratifs de Montréal. Made of metal, the MCP floor lamp is characterised by the solidity of its lines and a timeless aesthetic with an industrial look. The shape is reminiscent of certain creations by architect Pierre Chareau, in particular the SN3 stool. This light is part of the LC collection by Lumen Center: reissues of iconic lamps from the 1920s to the 1980s, created by famous personalities of international design.
