A magical balancing act that catches the eye… Designed by Ferruccio Laviani, the Tonda pendant light features sinuous and geometric lines. Tonda was born in the present but evokes the past: it’s an elegant reinterpretation of the experiences of Italian radical design from the 1960s and 1970s. The result is a creation that is simultaneously sophisticated and brimming with pop style, perfectly combining form and function. Tonda is composed of an opalescent blown-glass sphere, simply slotted into an off-centre coloured metal structure. This illuminated sphere freely rests on its mount, held in carefully-balance place but this metal bracket. The lightweight and graphic silhouette changes, depending on where the observer is looking at it from. You need to move around the pendant light to fully appreciate its complex, beautiful presence. Only then can you appreciate the sophisticated balance between the sphere and the partially-open metal stand which surrounds it without entirely enclosing it. Tonda is an illuminated sculpture which is truly unique, even in the quality of the light emitted by the blown glass diffuser with a hand-applied ombré effect (transitioning from white at the top to transparent at the bottom). The luminous effect is guided by the tangible skill of a human being, not by the cold precision of a machine.
