Plastic sensuality… The “Love is a Verb” lamps create resin replicas of the “sensual” sculptures in modelling clay by visual artist Tatiana Brodatch. These sculptures were originally created for the exhibition ”Love is a verb”, which took place in 2018 at the Transatlantique Gallery (Paris). An architect of Russian origin, Tatiana Brodatch has worked for 15 years between Moscow and Milan. Starting in 2013, seeking a more immediate means of expression, Tatiana began to sculpt, creating faceless characters with universal feelings. The “Love is a verb” series tells us about the relation to the other by staging the intimacy of naked bodies, alone or in a couple. In postures sometimes languorous, sometimes full of doubt, these faceless characters express Man’s reflection, doubt and hesitation. These characters depict the perfect imperfection of the human body, imperfect enough to seem real. Vectors of emotion, these featureless faces still possess the most penetrating glances. These figurines don’t say “look at me”, but rather “look at you’’. Placed on a sleek grey resin base, Tatiana Brodatch’s characters come to life, investing our interior with their disturbing presence. The white crumpled paper lampshade is held in place by a metal rod that the characters hold in their hand. The light filtering through the paper is soft and warm.
