Created by the young German designer Simon Schmitz, the Pan wall light offers a poetic use of light. Like a peacock unfurling its feathers, the light beam can be widened, narrowed and rotated 360 degrees by turning the central knob. Using a simple mechanism, this design encourages the user to interact with light. The mechanism is incredibly simple: an angular-cut rotating tube is slid over the LED light source. This rotating tube swivels using the central button. The result is a circle of light that can be narrowed, widened or rotated simply by pushing and turning the knob. The central button, using simple pressure, acts as a dimmer by modifying the quantity of light diffused. This same central button, by rotation, lets you direct the light beam in the desired direction, through 360°. The relationship with the object is a real experience for the user. Thanks to its design, the user can easily lower the light intensity via manual interaction that feels more like a magic trick than cold technological mastery. A simple transparent PMMA disc dressed in a sleek black metal structure: the design of the Pan wall light is simple and pure. Everything is essential, there’s no need to add unnecessary details since the intention is to amaze with the light itself. Simon Schmitz’s design process starts with light and emotions rather than shapes and colours.
